You may not have noticed, but I'm trying a few experiments with this new site. The obvious one is the lack of a sidebar, which was getting buried on mobile browsers. My overall design ethos is to try to keep things as simple and uncluttered as possible.
But there are a few other things I've done that I'd like your feedback on:
- This site doesn't use tracking. I've disabled Google Analytics and all its tracking. That leaves me at a disadvantage in that I have a much more difficult time seeing what the traffic flow is. But it also means that there aren't Google cookies gobbling up your privacy.
- There's no sharing shortcuts. For the same cookie-avoidance reason, I've left off the AddThis social link buttons that allow you to quickly share the site or page with others.
- Yes, you can RSS. I haven't put a specific link in for it, but the correct XML file is there that should allow you to get RSS for the News/Views blog. I personally use Newsify on the iPad, for instance. I just added zsystemuser.com to the feeds list and the items showed up.
A reminder about menus: every menu item (main menu name, sub-menu header, etc.) is clickable and takes you somewhere useful. I've made sure that if you click somewhere at the top of a menu hierarchy, all items below that still appear as links on the page you're taken to. Because don't click on these upper hierarchy items, they miss some information. For instance, clicking on Cameras/Z Camera Reviews shows you my current ratings and recommendations for all the Z cameras I've reviewed. Lenses/Nikon Z Mount Lens Reviews does the same thing for lenses. So don't be afraid to click on any item in the menu system; you might find something interesting.
