Tamron is a well-known third party lens manufacturer for DSLRs, located in Japan, and is now beginning to release lenses for mirrorless cameras. Sony is one of the largest investors in Tamron. Tamron is most known for designing and popularizing the first "superzoom" (the 28-200mm for film SLRs), but has turned into a reliable maker of a wide range of zoom lenses. Tamron has had a long, quiet relationship with Nikon over the years, producing certain lenses that appeared under the Nikkor label (e.g. the recent 28-75mm f/2.8 for the Z-mount). While it hasn't been acknowledged publicly, I also believe that Nikon supplies some glass to Tamron.
