Another Z6 II and Z7 II Firmware Update

Firmware for the II twins is now up to the 1.50 level, with Nikon adding additional support for NX MobileAir and improving the focus-ring response for manual focus mode. Also, an issue where USB power would terminate after 15 hours of use has been fixed.

So what about new feature updates for the original Z6 and Z7? (Yes, people are asking me that, despite the recent bug fix update.)

At the moment, Nikon is no longer discounting these older cameras. That's typically a sign that an older generation is on last call, particularly since we're coming into the holiday season where discounts are expected. I'd say that Nikon has begun to close out the books on these models. We may see one more discount turn for them—could this be a NikonUSA Black Friday special?—but it seems clear that Nikon is pushing the newer II twins now.

Moreover, the Z6/Z7 models are due for their next iteration soon. Normally I would have expected that to happen in this quarter, but I believe that a wide range of issues have caused them to move that to next quarter (January to March 2023). If Nikon reports better than expected unit volume next week at their next financial conference, I'd say that it's then a lock that the III's are now slated for 2023.
