Last Week’s Z News Shorts (Aug 7-Aug 12)

I’ve started accumulating “small” news announcements into a once-a-week story. This helps me be a little more productive and seems to align with the way most people are coming to this site (once or twice a week, but every week).

Last week wasn't a big news week for the Z System:

  • If you're using the Megadap ETZ21 adapter, you can effectively get to the same point as the recently released Pro version by: (1) downloading and installed firmware 3.55 using the supplied USB-cable device; and (2) updating to version Pro 1.23 via the camera's Firmware Update page (it appears as a lens update). Doing this fixes a number of known issues, and allows full use of the buttons on Tamron lenses. Megadap firmware page, but note that the English page hasn't been updated yet as I write this. You may have to email them to get access to the correct firmware pages.
  • Zhong Yi Optics introduced three t/1 cine lenses for the Z mount: 20mm, 35mm, 50mm.
  • I've added Z8 and Z9 High Efficiency* and High Efficiency raw converter support to the bottom of the Software versions page.
  • If you're looking for a way to save and load your settings that's better than Nikon's wimpy single file solution, Reikan FoCal 3.10 Desktop and the iOS/Android Snapshots 1.2 now have been updated to match Nikon menu names and organization, now capture and restore Picture Controls, and provide a PDF report of your settings.
